I'd say, "take this thing, carry it to motorola, and get your money back".
Either you need some strange S-Register setup, or the modem is just plain
broken :(

Me as well.
Sorry, I have a bit of trouble reading the logs, but according to the
spec sheet this is a Class 1 modem--which is probably why mgetty does
not work with it...
BTW, you can find the modem spec sheet at http://www.motorola.com/.
