That one was new for me. I still thought that there was no class 1 modem
supporting adaptive answer. Thanks for the info.

Sounds so. Never heard of.

How do I switch *off* this adaptive answering? Since mgetty can't do
Class 1 (and most likely never will), it will only interfere with proper
operation.
