Any experiences with USR Sportster Vi ?

I'm not sure if we speak about the same model, but a few days ago I had to
install a modem dial-in server with a bunch of sportster 28.8 modems.
Not only were the default settings lacking flow control, but also
the ATA was broken. It returns ERROR contrary to the documentation.
It would take up the line only in auto-answer-mode. (I know, one could
recompile mgetty with an answerstring of ATS0=1 instead of ATA, but I
consider this modem broken enough to give it back.) I did not try any
faxing.
