the NVRAM we use can be written 100,000 times.  I'd certainly not 
recommend re-writing profiles each time you re-init the modem.  

I prefer doing an AT&F, and then sending specific inits from there.  
that is the most foolproof way, and when you are constantly shuffling 
modems on a line (like I do), it is better than having the software do 
an ATZ (to recall a stored profile), which may or not be properly set 
in the new modem.
