disk crash

After an uptime of something like 15 months (and even then, reboots
were because of software or hardware upgrades, not unexpected panics),
"bif" -- our old 40 MHz Sun Sparcstation running SunOS 4.1.3 -- has
been crashing a *lot* this past week.  bif is the email, fax, and NFS
server and software repository for the engineering department.  If bif
ain't running, I and everyone else in engineering might as well go
home.  During one of these crashes, my entire incoming mail folder
disappeared  :-(

If anybody anything to me before Friday or so with a question or
request about the H-F list, there's a fair chance that I haven't acted
on it because I no longer have your question or request.

bif's replacement is now on order.  A Sun Ultrasparc with Solaris 2.6.
