He should gain his insight from the Word of God and through the unction
of the Holy Ghost. His counseling should not be derived from "points-of
view" of ANY member in the church. If he ins't counseling from the Word,
then his counseling is erroneous.
I still contend that things told the pastor in confidence should remain
there.
BEEN THERE/DONE THAT, and it doesn't work out...TRUST ME!

It should be that the congregation as enough faith in their leader that he
can properly counsel a member of the opposite gender without being led
into temptation. It's his job as a pastor. As far as what people will say,
well, if the pastor and his wife counsel a female, who's to say the rumor
won't include the pastor's wife as well? An evil heart will come up with
something evil regardless of the situation. BEEN THERE/DONE THAT!
