Thank You Brother Brown,
What happened was my husband wanted some cats to help control the mice
population as we live in a rural area and have grain for our sheep , dog
food etc. that really attractes the field mice.
So, we went to the local animal shelter in hopes of obtaining some cats.
Found out the local shelter was in upheavel , between management, and
animals were being dropped off on the doorstep literally! (unattended )
No one was caring for them, one dog had died in a pen out back, four
puppies were running lose , and two kittens were on the doorstep in a
cardboard box, taped closed with no food or water.
We took the two kittens and two of the puppies, and went and bought some
food putting out for the two we left and putting them in the pen.
I then called city hall and the local newspaper office and I was told ,
after they had their business meeting that night , that the city is taking
it over.

Mean while back at the ranch we shampooed all of the animals, puppies and
kittens in appropriate flea/tick shampoo's, the kittens ears were treated
for ear mites, (they were all flea infested), I blow dried them to get
them warm again as it is cool weather (the kittens loved it) and
Then.......... I tried to feed them.
The kittens were so sick and scrawney they would not even drink warm milk
so I tried to pry open its little mouth to insert a drop of milk with my
finger.....WRONG move!
***CRUNCH****
As sick as it was IT had a very strong bite and I was punctured on both
sides of my fore finger, right hand.
And Yes I was concerned about infection, especially as the kittens are
sick, discharge from eyes, and they are just skin and bones.
So I immedietly soaked the finger in hydrogen peroxide but still was
concerned since it was a puncture wound and there was blood.
I later that same evening made a tea of a the herb Echinichea which is
a natural antiseptic and immune system booster and soaked my finger in it
even keeping the tea bag on it through part of the night.
I am happy to say that today there is almost no soreness and it shows no
sign of infection (THANK YOU JESUS!)
Also, the puppies are very lively and are actually becoming very playful,
One of which I named after Brother Tyler since he had never had a dog named
after him.
; ) and I gave them a little worm medicine last night and they were
fine this morning.
As far as our kittens , I am happy to say they now lap their milk greedily
from the bowl, and immedietly begin to cry for it when we arrive home.
I am concerned for them still as their eyes still are gumming up and I must
wash their eyes daily with a wash rag to remove the secretions.
But they are improved some it seems.
WE placed a quartz heater on the back porch ,where they huddle up close for
warmth.
BY THe way , after being bitten I used ny noggin and thought of the syringe
I use to squirt medicine down their throats which is how I was able to
squirt the milk between their teeth and get them drinking.
I am going to worm them also when I think they are strong enough to take
it.
Just wanted to thank you for your concern and let you know the status.
Sincerely.....defender of helpless puppies and kittens. : )
