I think that's correct when talking of religion.

Also correct when talking of *religion*.

Probably more correctly, a *liberal* is someone who doesn't
necessarily operate by all of the normal conventions.  

I'm definitely *conservative* in accordance to the world.
But in my conservativeness, I'm probably measured a little
on the liberal side (I don't follow lock-toe to everything 
any organization says -- I've my own ideas and thoughts).

The actin the Garden of Eden to bite the fruit was an extremely 
*liberal* act.  The conventional means was to eat *everything else* 
which would be considered nowadays *conservative*.  The *liberal* 
way is to try something un-traditional generally thought of as 
*progressive* (moving forward) in nature.  Progressive doesn't have 
to mean *for the good* -- though sometimes it's disguised as such.
