Hmmmmmmmmm..... I know that if one were to take a paper-cup and put
water in it, and they were to *torch* the cup, you can't burn a hole
into the bottom of the cup until all of the water had evaporated out.
The reason being, is that the water keeps the paper *below* the point
of combustion.  You can incinerate a paper cup with water in it, the 
only point that will *burn* is above the water line.  So... I'm not
so sure that a boat will develop a hole in it if you set a fire in the
middle of it at the bottom.

I think it's stupid, but I don't think it'd make the boat sink. 

Having said that, the fire will *weaken* the structure of the boat 
significantly to the point where when you stamp on the place of *fire*
and put the fire out, you can probably put your foot through a weakened
boat bottom and *force* the hole.... then... it'd sink.
