A few years back, my wifes family had a couple of elderly members pass
away and "were just waiting for the third". This was my first exposure
to this idea that deaths come in threes. After a great deal of research
I found a couple of sources for the idea.
One was a English wives tale - appearantly some thought that when one
died two always seemd to follow)
Another was an eary 1900 doctor that made the same type of statement.
Neither were proven by the author in researching the deaths in his small
town. But he noted that the theory applies to extended families also.
I have seen a few cases of the three deaths (BTW - my wife's great aunt
died being the third and no more have died in the last 5 years) but I
think that statistically it is not an anomoly, more just a thing that
will happen ever once in a while.
