dear brother brian.......I sent my letter of explaination to brother reed
prior to reading your letter explaining your viewpoint on Dr. Marx using G_d
out of "respect" for the NAME of JESUS. I do not disrespect you or Dr Marx
but i am somewhat concerned as to your statement that seems to indicate
approval of him continuing to use G_d instead of saying the NAME of JESUS. I
understand the Jewish belief system and their total respect for the NAME of
GOD (YHWH). Yet I cannot respect their "lack" of using the NAME of JESUS.
I understand that they or anyone for that matter who does not believe in
Our Lord and Savior JESUS Christ would not use His name because they do not
acknowledge His Messiahship.
That is totally excusable and I would never criticize them for not doing
something they have no knowledge about.
We as believers on the other hand "do know the truth" about the NAME of
JESUS. We, as carriers of that NAME, and as sons of God should never lack
in our use of the word God, or the NAME of JESUS when referring to GOD. Yes
the Jews were offended at Jesus for stating that he was the promised Messiah
and the true God they had been waiting for.....but He was "who" He said He
was and had perfect right to make the statement.
We must "never" deny our Father His true respect in not stating His
name. We may say God, or Lord, or Jesus, or Jehovah, or any one of many
different combinations of His NAME and not disrespect Him. But i do believe
continuing a practice that does NOT acknowledge His true identity after we
have know the "truth" of the Name of JESUS would be error on our part.
Remember the enemy "hates" the NAME of JESUS and will do anything he can
to "supress" the very mention of the NAME of JESUS. The apostles were
persecuted for the NAME of JESUS, many have been martyred for the NAME of
JESUS, and their memory is a great testimony to their faith in the NAME of
JESUS. Let us not loose track of the persecutions they endured and the very
sacrifice and atonement work that JESUS did on the cross of Calvary by being
crucified to "wash away" our sins and make it possible for us to be saved
thru His NAME.
Acts 4:12 ... For there is none other NAME ....whereby we must be saved.
There seems to be wisdom to be expressed when witnessing to Jewish
non-believers in Jesus of not hitting them over the head with the NAME of
JESUS each time we speak with them. I am in total agreement with this
practice and also any other "offensive" words to them should be observed with
the utmost caution and wisdom. I beleive we can be "biblically correct:"
without being too ofensive to them in our conversations. But Jesus did
come to "set at variance" a man from his family. (if one accepts the way of
Jesus...he is set apart from his non-believing family untill they convert)
So i do believe we need to be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit
when we witness to ANY non-believer. The enemy will try and withstand us by
supression of The NAME of JESUS and Gods WORD but as the scriptures
say......"the gates of hell will not prevail against the church."
As always this is submitted in the attitude of Isaiah 1:18....let us
reason together. Any comments are welcome and expected in Christian love.
In the NAME of GOD....JESUS
