WWW and 666

[666 = WWW and bar codes and computer keypads and other assorted nonsense]

Please pardon me my outburst, but this is ridiculous. 666 != 6660
in any case.

It's a mathematical certainty that if you manipulate symbols enough,
you *will* come up with 666. People have found 666 in the name of
Jesus, for crying out loud. See Chapter 2 of _Scientific American Book
of Mathematical Puzzles and Diversions_ for details on constructing
math puzzles to force *any* desired number.

If I worked at it, I could find 666 in Nathaniel Urshan's name or even
my own name. Let's subtract one from the number of letters in each of
my first and last name, and I get 6-6. If I subtract one from the
number of letters in my middle name, I get 9, which is an inverted 6.
There you go. The owner of the Higher-Fire list is the anti-Christ.
Not!

Yes, the Babylonian numbering system was based on six. That's where we
get 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day,
and 12 months in a year (all products of SIX). That's why we have 360
degrees in a circle, since the whole degree thing was based on
Babylonian astrology. It's quite likely that John's use of six and
it's connection to Babylon was intentional.

It's also true that the Greeks used LETTERS for use as numeric symbols,
just as the Romans used I, V, X, and other letters for their numbering
system. What we would read as "Six Hundred Sixty Six" (_NOT_ "6-6-6,"
which is qualitatively different) would be three Greek letters: one
which would be read as six-hundred, the next which would be read as
sixty, the next which would be read as six.

So, even if "W" is a Greek "6" (which it isn't, the Greek symbol that
looks like a "w" is "omega" i.e. the letter "O" and also a part of
ALPHA & OMEGA), it's only 1/3 of the whole "six-hundred-sixty-six"
number of the beast. There is no "W" letter or equivalent in the Greek
language, proving that this whole "WWW=666" thread is nothing but nonsense.

> "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number
> of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is
> Six hundred threescore and six."

"Let him that hath understanding...."

If you have understanding, you will know the man behind the number. My
guess is that the first century readers of Revelation knew exactly whom
John was writing about.
