Dr. Marx:
A good example is 1
>Thes 5:17 where Paul tells them who to read the epistle to "I charge you
>by the L-rd that this epistle be read unto all HOLY BRETHERN" Some adnit
>they can't see the point! Could it be because they have been
>assimilated? G-d forbid! Shalom!
Me:
Reminds me of an object lesson I use: I ask these people who think that the
Epistles were written as instructions to sinners on how to be saved "When
was the last time you got a letter from the Pope?" They respond by saying
that they have NEVER gotten a letter from the Pope. I ask "Why?" They
usually say "I don't know." <at this point they know I am about to 'drop a
shoe' and don't want to help me ;-)> I then say "Could it be, maybe, that
is because you are not Catholic?"
Read some of OUR epistles. Do we put the exact baptismal formula in EVERY
reference to baptism? When I report that one girl received the Holy Ghost
last Sunday (HALLELUJAH), do I HAVE to add that she spoke in tongues as the
Spirit gave her utterance or, knowing me and my doctrine, do you already
KNOW that? Just because the Bible (the original) is a sacred book that
doesn't mean that it wasn't STILL written to REAL PEOPLE by REAL PEOPLE who
had REAL PROBLEMS and needed REAL ENCOURAGEMENT or REAL ADMONISHMENT or REAL
REBUKE!
Now, this is speculation on my part but *MY* guess is that when Paul sat
down to write these letters that he DID NOT say "Be very careful how you
write these out Bro. Luke (et al ;-), these are going to be translated and
preserved as the Word of God for centuries to come and will be the underling
THREAD that ties all Apostolics everywhere to the Truth of the Creator of
the universe manifested in the flesh and instruct them on how to unite with
Him." *MY* guess is that he was, in his own mind, just letting the
Corinthians HAVE IT and was telling the Romans to ABIDE in faith and their
*confession* of this faith and Jesus would deliver them (some by death ;-).
Like many of us however, LOOK WHAT GOD HAS DONE WITH THESE *SIMPLE* THINGS!
Acts 14:15
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions
with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto
the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things
that are therein:
AND
James 5:17
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly
that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three
years and six months.
Not great MEN of authority, but men greatly USED of God by the authority of
His Word!
Make me one of these Lord!
