| In a way the wrong question is being asked. Maybe it should be why do so
| many congregations over spend? forcing them to get money they wouldn't
| need if they did over spend. I like the home meeting concept, because

Home meeting ideas are great, but I don't think that should do away with
individual church buildings. Maybe the building itself isn't the problem,
but perhaps buying a building above the congregation's means, or feeling
that a state of the art PA system is necessary in a church with about 10
rows of pews.

Personally, whenever our congregation does fundraising, it is for foreign
missions. (The mortgage on our building was paid years ago.)

Excellent point. I'd say 90% of our fundraising is from within our
congregation. Only things like our annual "rummage sale" and car washes
(which only bring in minimal funds, relatively) involve outside people.
Our favorite fundraiser is when the ladies serve a dinner (for a donation)
after church in the basement.

| Think about it!!! I have held meeting in homes
| for the past 35 years and have no intention of building any building for
| the purpose of worship. or to change a worship service into a money
| colecters paradise. or to use the saints to cover gross money
| mismanagement. Shalom!

Well, that system seems to be working out well for you. A lot of the
congregations in my area have way too many members for such a system to be
practical (including several large extended families). Some of them have
home meetings on some days, then meet for regular services and prayer
meetings other times as a group.
