Hannakah celebrates the victory of the Macabees, which ocurred during
the 400 silent years. Read about it in the book of the Macabees in
the Appocrypha, available in any good bookstore, or a Catholic Bible
if you have one around.
Regarding the birthday of Jesus, I always figgured around October.
The Bible records the important Jewish events in his life. He birth,
his Bar Mitzvah age (around 13) when he stayed behind in the temple
and taught the Priests and rabis, then nothing until he started to
preach and teach at about age 30 -- the age for a Jewish man to find a
wife. The wife is the church, obviously! He preached 3 1/2 years.
Finally we have record of his death on the Passover in April. Since
there is a 1/2 year factor in his lifespan, he must have been born 6
months before April, which would have been October.
